HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 c170W
25. Mr. Lubbock

asked the Minister of Social Security if she will introduce legislation allowing the Supplementary Benefits Commission to nominate a limited number of tenants for local authority houses, with a view to reducing the charge on public funds in cases where the recipient is paying a much higher rent than he would in a council house, but because of the general level of rents in the area the whole of the actual rent is reimbursed to the recipient by the Supplementary Benefits Commission.

Mr. Pentland

No. It might prevent local authorities from giving preference to people living under unsatisfactory housing conditions.
