HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 c175W
Sir G. Sinclair

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether he will ensure that British fittings and components are specified to the maximum possible extent in the construction contracts for which he is responsible, whenever it is necessary to specify a proprietary product as a standard of quality.

Mr. Mellish

Instructions have been issued to the professional officers responsible for the construction work undertaken by my Department that where it is necessary to quote a proprietary product as a guide to the standard of quality required, other things being equal, British products should be specified. Imported products should be specified or purchased only where, after British products have been considered, a foreign alternative is found to be preferable on such grounds as design, quality, delivery dates or price.
