HC Deb 08 April 1968 vol 762 c173W
37. Mr. Hazell

asked the Lord President of the Council what quantities of imported powdered milk, in addition to the 120 pounds of home-produced powdered milk, are used in the Refreshment Rooms of the House; and what are the countries of origin.

Mr. Maxwell

I have been asked to reply.

None.

39. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Lord President of the Council if he will arrange for the Refreshment Department to install a modern self-service salad bar for the use of Members.

Mr. Maxwell

I have been asked to reply.

It is the intention of the Refreshment Department to install a modern self-service salad bar in the Members' Dining Room after the Whitsun Recess.

Mr. Hazell

asked the Lord President of the Council what proportion of the reconstituted chip potatoes used in the Refreshment Rooms of the House are home produced and foreign produced, respectively; what are the countries of origin of those which are foreign produced: and why, in view of the abundance of home-grown potatoes, reconstituted chip potatoes are used.

Mr. Maxwell

I have been asked to reply.

The reconstituted chip potatoes are entirely foreign produced and come from Holland. In addition to being more economical at this time of year, I understand that the end product is generally very acceptable to customers. Fresh potatoes are in fact used for meals in the Members' Dining Room.
