HC Deb 05 April 1968 vol 762 c149W
Mr. Whitaker

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals he has to encourage the increasing use of school and university buildings and facilities which at present are unused during holidays and vacations.

Mr. Gordon Walker

Universities are increasingly aware of the advantages of using buildings and facilities fully throughout the year. Action which might be taken to achieve this is being considered by the Sub-Committee on the use of university capacity set up by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals, referred to in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Sheffield, Heeley (Mr. Hooley) on 8th February.—[Vol. 758, c.201–2.]

Very different considerations apply to schools but I shall continue to encourage the use of school facilities for other purposes so far as this is practicable.
