HC Deb 04 April 1968 vol 762 c135W
47. Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the 2,903 price increases which have taken place in the first 15 weeks after devaluation.

Mr. Peart

My hon. Friend is presumably referring to figures of increases in grocery lines recorded in the trade Press. This matter was thoroughly debated on 11th March. In the debate my hon. Friend the Joint Parliamentary Secretary explained how misleading these figures can be to people outside the trade. He gave examples of how a rise in price of a single foodstuff could appear as up to 100 or more "price increases".—[Vol. 760, c. 1146–52.]
