HL Deb 02 April 1968 vol 290 cc1219-20WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. " (a) What is the amount of payments under all headings made to Zambia during the current financial year or during the 1967 calendar year;
  2. (b) What is the current commitment for annual subvention to Botswana, and what proportion does such represent of the total national revenue."

LORD SHEPHERD

Payments made by Her Majesty's Government to or on behalf of Zambia in the calendar year 1967 totalled £16.68 million.

Our current commitment to Botswana covers the three years 1967–68 to 1969–70 and includes £13 million of financial aid, plus substantial technical assistance. Direct aid payments in the current financial year, including payments under the Overseas Service Aid Scheme, are expected to total £4.72 million, representing 55 per cent. of Botswana's recurrent and development revenues for that year.
