HC Deb 02 April 1968 vol 762 c57W
Mr. Hugh Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the extent to which the financial proposals in his Budget will result in a more even distribution of personal incomes.

Mr. Diamond

It is estimated that, in a full year, the Budget will have the effect of reducing the degree of inequality of incomes, as measured by the Gini coefficient, by 1¾ per cent. with 3s. increase in family allowance, or 2 per cent. with 10s. increase.
