§ 1. Mr. Luardasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action he is taking to ensure discussion at the 18-nation Disarmament Conference at Geneva of nuclear-free zones in Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia.
§ Mr. MulleyThe creation of these zones is primarily a matter for the initiative of the countries in the areas concerned. I hope, however, that the conclusion of the Non-Proliferation Treaty will stimulate progress on other disarmament subjects, including nuclear free zones. The Eighteen Nation Disarmament Committee at Geneva adjourned on 14th March last until after the consideration of the Non-Proliferation Treaty by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
