HC Deb 01 April 1968 vol 762 cc38-9W
Mr. Swain

asked the Minister of Power why new coal-fired power stations are expected to cost £65 a kilowatt, in view of the fact that coal-fired stations now being completed cost only £45 a kilowatt.

Mr. Richard Marsh

The estimate of £65 a kilowatt included an allowance for interest during construction, without which it would be about £55 a kilowatt. Stations now being completed were ordered when prices were lower.
