Mr. Hornerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to bring to a conclusion the deliberations of the departmental committee which is examining the question of the transport of dangerous 511W cargoes by road; and when he intends to publish its recommendations to fire and police authorities.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsThe Standing Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances has been preparing proposals for reglations dealing with the conveyance by road of over 200 highly inflammable liquids; this has involved consultation with many bodies, including the police and the fire service. I expect to be able to make regulations in the near future. The Committee was set up to advise me on all matters relating to my responsibilities for the control of dangerous substances, in the interests of the safety of the public, and there is no question at present of its work being brought to an end.
