In the same period capital expenditure by education authorities and local authorities on sport and recreation increased from £3.1m. to £3.5m.

The Sports Council for Scotland was set up in 1966 to promote a properly balanced improvement and extension of facilities for sport and physical recreation to meet local and Scottish needs. In co-operation with the Sports Council it will advise the Government on how further progress can be made.
