§ Mr. Russell Johnstonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will list the public bodies which have made representations to him in favour of the siting of an aluminium smelter in Scotland; and what reply he has sent.
§ Mr. RossThe Highlands and Islands Development Board, the Scottish Trades Union Congress and various local authorities have brought their views formally to my attention. I have emphasised that the first step is for the aluminium companies themselves to prepare and submit proposals based on the Government's announcement of 4th October, but that in considering these the Government will pay full regard to the employment the smelter will generate.
