HC Deb 21 November 1967 vol 754 c308W
99. Mr. Iremonger

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what guidance is issued for chief constables and the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis about the special needs and difficulties of deaf people when charged with offences or otherwise brought into contact with constables on duty.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Police officers are well aware of the need for special consideration when dealing with any person who suffers from disability or illness. Home Office advice in regard to the deaf and dumb has been limited to helping police forces to find interpreters.
