HC Deb 20 November 1967 vol 754 c225W
44. Mr. David Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what are the total number of staff employed, respectively, in the United Kingdom's Washington, Paris and Moscow embassies; and if he is satisfied that they are adequately and economically deployed so as to enable Her Majesty's representatives in these embassies adequately to represent the policies of the Government in all their aspects.

Mr. Mulley

The numbers of home-based staff are 123, 116 and 86 respectively. The figures for Paris and Moscow include the Service Attaché establishment; that for Washington excludes the British Defence Staffs.

The staffing and organisation of Diplomatic Service posts abroad are reviewed every three years by visiting Inspectors. In addition, all Heads of Mission are required to make a searching annual review of their staff requirements. We are satisfied that Diplomatic Service staff at Embassies abroad are adequately and economically deployed.
