HC Deb 20 November 1967 vol 754 c282W
Mr. Doig

asked the Minister of Transport what sum was paid in compensation last year to past shareholders of the railways; and for how many years these payments are to continue.

Mr. John Morris

Previous shareholders were fully compensated by the issue of British Transport 3 per cent. Stock, 1978–88 of a nominal value of £927,313,593 and no such payments are currently being made.

Under the Transport Act, 1962, liability for this stock was taken over by the Treasury, who continue to meet the interest payments.
