HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc150-1W
Lord Balniel

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the adverse effect of recruiting of supervisors and assistant supervisors in schools in hospitals for the mentally subnormal which will result from the decision that the operative date of their salary increase is 1st July, 1967, whereas the operative date of the salary increase of supervisors in junior training centres was six months earlier; and what steps he proposes to take to lessen this effect.

Mr. K. Robinson

Salary increases for staff of Local Authority Junior Mental Health Training Centres had been agreed but not implemented before the Prices and Incomes Standstill, and the operative date was deferred to 1st February, 1967. The claim for Hospital staff was made during the Standstill, the settlement was published on 12th July and the agreed operative date of 1st July was immediately after the end of the Period of Severe Restraint. I do not expect the operative date of the agreement to have an adverse effect on recruitment.
