HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc147-8W
Mr. Wingfield Digby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of recent outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease is attributable to migratory birds; in how many cases the species has been identified; and which are the species.

Mr. Peart

There has been no evidence that birds were involved in the introduction of infection in the eight primary outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in the last five years. Local bird movement may have, along with other causes, helped to spread the disease from the primary outbreaks to the secondary outbreaks. No species has been definitely implicated.
