Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Minister of Power what is the range of coal prices charged to electricity generating stations and to gasworks in Scotland; and how this compares with prices charged in England and Wales.

The range in Scotland is 89s. to 116s. a ton for electricity coals and 120s. to 145s. a ton for gas coals. The comparable ranges in England and Wales are respectively 56s. to 140s. and 90s. to 135s.
