HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc101-2W
18. Mr. Hamling

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will now seek powers to accept departmental responsibility for the administration of British Railways.

Mr. John Morris

My right hon. Friend already has departmental responsibility for the British Railways Board.

Sir G. Nabarro

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will make a statement on the Chairmanship of British Railways.

Mrs. Castle

As I told the House in the debate on 6th November, I believe that the reorganisation of the work of the Railways Board must involve a change in the chairmanship. I am not yet ready to add to that statement.—[Vol. 753, c. 669.]

54. Mr. Webster

asked the Minister of Transport what chairmen from within the Railways Board have resigned in the last three months; and what alternative employment has been offered to chairmen employed within the Board.

Mrs. Castle

I understand that Mr. G. F. Fiennes, Chairman of the Eastern Railway Board, has resigned with effect from 31st January, 1968.

I have offered him no alternative employment.
