asked the Minister of Transport whether she will include the examination of tyres in her Department's tests for old motor cars.

Mrs. Castle

Yes. I expect to make regulations later this year to strengthen the powers to ensure that tyres are safe. The regulations will be brought into operation in the spring of next year and an examination of tyres will then be included as a specific item in the annual test.
