HC Deb 14 November 1967 vol 754 c62W
Mr. Brian Parkyn

asked the Minister of Technology (1) what was the amount of work carried out as a percentage of total expenditure between defence and civilian projects by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough, during each of the past three years;

(2) what was the amount of work carried out as a percentage of total expenditure between defence and civilian projects by the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Bedford, during each of the past three years.

Mr. Benn

It is not possible to make a precise division of the total effort between defence and civil since much of the work is relevant to both these fields. The expenditure is therefore charged to the defence or civil budget on the basis of certain conventions, the effect of which is that in each of the past three years about three-quarters has been charged to defence and the remainder to civil. This applies to R.A.E. as a whole, including both Farnborough and Bedford.
