HC Deb 14 November 1967 vol 754 c72W
61. Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will make a statement on the availability of funds for local authority mortgages.

Mr. Greenwood

The approved total for local authority advances for house purchase in 1967–68 was £121 million in England alone and in the first two quarters about £63 million was advanced. I have recently authorised additional allocations totalling £3 million to authorities in the North, North-West and South-West Regions to help maintain their lending during the coming winter. I have also agreed to the special arrangements which some authorities have made with building societies to borrow money for this purpose outside their normal quota.
