HC Deb 14 November 1967 vol 754 cc79-80W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will investigate the circumstances under which a 15-year-old boy, whose name has been given to him, sentenced to Borstal treatment, was held in Lincoln Prison from 1st to 6th November; and whether it is usual for a boy of this age to be held in prison instead of being sent to an appropriate institution.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

This boy was detained in Lincoln prison for a few days under Section 46 of the Prison Act, 1952. It has always been the normal practice for boys sentenced to borstal training to be lodged first in local prisons. They are transferred to a borstal allocation centre as soon as possible.
