HC Deb 09 November 1967 vol 753 cc158-9W
Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what were the circumstances that caused the deaths of two African officer cadets in the Okehampton district of Dartmoor while on an exercise; and if he will make a statement;

(2) in view of his assurances to the hon. Member for Torrington last April that instructions would be given on correct clothing and methods of survival to all who take part in exercises on the Moor, whether these instructions were carried out in the recent exercise which resulted in the deaths of two African cadets.

Mr. Boyden

I would refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply I gave yesterday to my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr (Mr. Christopher Price). I will make a statement after the Army board of inquiry has reached its findings.—[Vol. 735, c.111.]
