HC Deb 09 November 1967 vol 753 c171W
57. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the dangers of explosions occurring at coin-in-the-slot launderettes and the inadequate legal coverage of their customers, he will introduce legislation requiring them to be staffed in opening hours.

Mr. Gunter

No. The safety of equipment and plant in launderettes would not be ensured by the presence of non-technical staff. I have recently issued a free advisory pamphlet "Prevention of Explosions of Water Heating Systems in Launderettes" which is being widely distributed to owners and occupiers of launderettes.
