Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what is the total amount paid annually in regional employment premiums and other measures to development areas.

Expenditure on the regional employment premium, the regionally differentiated element of investment grants, training grants to firms expanding in or moving to Development Areas, and assistance under the Local Employment Acts is estimated to be running at an annual rate of £190 million per annum.
