HC Deb 12 May 1967 vol 746 c287W
Mr. Bryant Godman Irvine

asked the Minister of Labour, how many persons were employed by local government authorities on the latest convenient date, and at the same date 12 months previously.

Mr. Gunter

At June, 1966, the latest date for which information is available, the total number employed in local authorities and police forces in Great Britain was 2,122,600 compared with 2,024,700 at June, 1965.

The numbers include not only those employees classified to Local Government Service (Minimum List Heading 906 of the Standard Industrial Classification) but also employees of local authorities classified to other industrial sectors, e.g. construction, transport services, education, etc.
