§ Mr. Sydney Silvermanasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that the Associated Electrical Industries factory at Nelson will close on 11th June next and that this closure will bring the registered unemployment figures to 4.5 per cent.; and whether he will give urgent consideration to the designation of the area as a development area.
§ Mr. JayI shall seek to encourage the development of new industry in this area by a liberal use of 299W Industrial Development Certificates and in other ways: but I do not consider that designation as a Development Area is the appropriate method.
