HC Deb 10 May 1967 vol 746 c230W
Mrs. Cullen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he will set up a committee to review the Scottish marriage laws.

Mr. Ross

I have appointed a Committee under the chairmanship of Lord Kilbrandon, chairman of the Scottish Law Commission, to review the law of the constitution of marriage in Scotland, as distinct from related questions such as divorce and property rights. It is the intention that the Committee will work in close association with the Scottish Law Commission. The Committee's terms of reference are as follows:—To enquire into the requirements (both fundamental and formal) for the constitution of marriage in Scotland, and their relationship with those of other countries, and to recommend what changes, if any, are required to bring them up to date. The other members of the Committee are:—

  • Mr. D. A. P. Barry.
  • Mrs. J. Blackie.
  • Dr. J. Freedman.
  • Mrs. R. O. Gould.
  • Mr. G. B. Houston.
  • Professor R. Insley.
  • Mr. A. R. McIlwraith.
  • Councillor Agnes M. Patrick.
  • Sheriff Isobel Sinclair.
