HC Deb 09 May 1967 vol 746 c192W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer for what reason have students, wishing to travel abroad for educational purposes between leaving school and entering university, been refused suplementary travel allowances.

Mr. Diamond

Special allotments are made available to students attending courses at educational institutions abroad or organised by responsible educational bodies in this country. No special allotment is made for individually arranged trips because it is necessary to restrict travel expenditure generally and because of the difficulty of distinguishing between educational and recreational elements in particular cases.

Mr. Cordle

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many students wishing to travel abroad for educational purposes between leaving school and entering university have been refused supplementary travel allowances.

Mr. Diamond

I regret that this information is not available. Applications which satisfy appropriate conditions are not refused.
