HC Deb 09 May 1967 vol 746 c195W
67. Sir S. McAdden

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that some local authorities are using their discretionary powers to accord rate relief to licensed clubs; and whether he will consider issuing a circular advising against this practice.

Mr. MacColl

No. Local authorities have been given by Parliament a discretion to grant rate relief to clubs not established for profit which are used wholly or mainly for purposes of recreation. The decision should be taken locally in the light of local circumstances.
