§ Mr. Brooksasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many families in England and Wales are known to have changed their place of residence during each of the years 1961 to 1966, inclusive; and what was the proportion of such families to the total number in each of those years.
§ Mr. MellishAnnual figures are not available. Information from two national sample surveys carried out for my department in 1960 and 1963–64 indicate that the annual rate at which households changed their residence during this period was rather more than 10 per cent. This represented about 1½ million changes of residence per year in England and Wales. These are figures for households, a term which covers a wider field than is normally understood by a family; it includes for example people living by themselves.
