HC Deb 09 May 1967 vol 746 cc203-4W
Mr. McGuire

asked the Minister of Transport about how much it would be necessary for British Railways to increase freight charges to make up for the loss of revenue if natural gas were used during the summer in coal-fired power stations to the extent of one, two, three, four or five million tons of coal equivalent.

Mr. John Morris

The Department and the Ministry of Power are discussing with the nationalised industries concerned the effects of the possible summer use of natural gas in power stations. It is not possible at the moment to say how this might affect the Railway Board's revenue position.
