§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the nationality rules governing entry into the Army; and what restrictions are imposed on the entry of recruits who are born 136W in the United Kingdom of parents of whom one or both are foreign nationals, born in the United Kingdom of parents of whom one or both were foreign born, born abroad of United Kingdom parents, and born abroad of parents of whom one or both were foreign born, respectively.
§ Mr. ReynoldsA candidate and his parents must normally be British subjects or citizens of the Irish Republic by birth, and have been born in a Commonwealth country or the Irish Republic. My right hon. Friend may waive these rules in a particular case at his discretion. My right hon. Friend the Minister without Portfolio explained the policy in another place on 20th March.
