§ 51. Mr. Hamlingasked the Lord President of the Council what further proposals the Government will take to provide opportunities for back benchers to examine the actions and policies of the Executive; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. CrossmanAs I said in the House on 19th April, I see the House's rôle as an "assembly of bipartisan inquirers and controllers of the Executive" as an essential function of Parliament, and one which is likely to grow in importance. I will certainly keep this aspect in mind when considering proposals for further procedural changes.
