Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will state the total number of British Servicemen in the Far East at present; and what the total will be by April, 1968.

Mr. Healey

In the Far East as a whole there were about 39,000 United Kingdom servicemen at 1st March, 1967, including ships at sea. Details of reductions between now and April, 1968, and in particular the numbers of United Kingdom Servicemen have not yet been finally decided.
