HC Deb 04 May 1967 vol 746 cc99-100W
Mr. Tilney

asked the Minister of Overseas Development (1) how much he intends to spend this financial year on meeting the fees of undergraduates from Commonwealth countries at United Kingdom universities, and specifically at Oxford and Cambridge;

(2) how much he intends to spend this financial year on aiding undergraduates from India at Oxford, Cambridge, and other United Kingdom universities, respectively.

Mr. Oram

Existing schemes financed by the Ministry, that is, Commonwealth Scholarships and Technical Assistance Training awards cater in the main for postgraduate students and more advanced administrative and technical training. Under these schemes approximately £30,000 will be spent during 1967–68 on fees for Commonwealth undergraduates at British universities of which about £650 each will be in respect of undergraduates at Oxford and Cambridge. No Indian students are expected to be studying at undergraduate level under these schemes.
