HC Deb 02 May 1967 vol 746 c29W
Mr. Judd

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what is the distribution of qualified economists on the permanent staffs of United Kingdom High Commissions throughout the Commonwealth; in particular, how many such qualified economists there have been on the permanent staff of the High Commission in India in each of the past five years; and how many there are now.

Mr. George Thomas

There are at present no professional economists employed as such. Of members of the Diplomatic Service with degrees in economics there are, serving in various capacities, one each at Bridgetown, Colombo, Karachi, Lusaka, Melbourne, Nairobi and Rawalpindi and three at Kingston. During the last five years there have been two officers on the staff of the High Commission in India with degrees in economics, one serving from 1962 to 1964 and the other from 1962 to 1965, but no professional economists.
