HC Deb 02 May 1967 vol 746 cc56-7W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Technology if he will make a statement on his proposed extensions of the work of Dounreay Experimental Station and the uses to which those extensions will be put in relation to Scottish productive industry and exports.

Dr. Bray

The only extension to the Dounreay Experimental Reactor Establishment is the construction of the Prototype Fast Reactor. This is designed to demonstrate the operating characteristics and fuel performance of large commercial fast reactor power stations likely to come into use in the late 1970s. The reactor will supply some 250 MW(e) to the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board's system.
