§ 59. Mr. Parkasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps Her Majesty's Government propose to take, in their pursuit of disarmament, to prevent the further development of anti-ballistic-missile systems.
§ Mr. George ThomsonAs I have previously made clear, we have been in touch on a number of occasions with both the United States and Soviet Governments in order to explain our concern at the implications of anti-ballistic-missile deployment. They have now begun direct exchanges about limiting the nuclear arms race and we think that these offer the best hope of progress; but if we think we can make a useful contribution we shall riot hesitate to intervene.—[Vol. 745, c. 78.]
