HC Deb 21 March 1967 vol 743 c236W
66. Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will introduce legislation to ensure that the people of Wales receive material return for the two-thirds of the water impounded in Wales which is consumed by English industrial conurbations.

Mrs. White

The Welsh reservoirs supplying industrial areas in England already benefit Wales in a variety of ways.

Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total gallonage of water, impounded in Welsh reservoirs, used in England in 1966.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

In 1966 about 45,500 million gallons of water were taken directly into supply from Welsh reservoirs for use in England. It is impracticable to measure the quantities abstracted by English water authorities from the River Dee.
