Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many aircraft have been diverted from Edinburgh Airport since 1st February, 1967; what proportion this represents of total flights; how many passengers were involved; and if he will publish a table classifying the number of diversions by cause and by type of aircraft.

114 flights (9.5 per cent. of the total) were diverted or cancelled during the period 1st February-14th March inclusive. Approximately 4,250 passengers were affected.

The types of aircraft and causes of the diversions and cancellations were as follows:

373 flights (including cancellations) and approximately 24,800 passengers. 68 of the diversions and cancellations (involving 3,582 passengers) were caused by crosswinds.
