HC Deb 21 March 1967 vol 743 cc238-9W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the general inadequacy of the transport system in Wales, she will give an assurance that no rail closure will be contemplated in Wales until the publication of the Welsh Economic Plan.

Mr. John Morris

My right hon. Friend will continue to seek the views of the Welsh Economic Council before taking a decision on any railway passenger closure proposal in Wales, and I have no doubt that any comments they might make would fully reflect relevant aspects of the Plan they are now preparing.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Transport if, in addition to economic and social considerations affecting rail closures, she will, in relation to railway lines listed for examination in Wales, also give consideration to the importance of those railway lines which are vital to Wales as a national entity.

Mr. John Morris

My right hon. Friend will, in Wales as elsewhere, continue to take into account any consideration which appears to her to be relevant to a proposal for discontinuing a railway passenger service.
