§ Mr. Whitakerasked Mr. Attorney-General whether, following the case of Christopher Haines, he will review the procedure for the release of people committed indefinitely to prison for contempt of court.
§ The Attorney-GeneralMy noble Friend the Lord Chancellor is considering whether the procedure in cases of persons committed for contempt of court can be improved, particularly where, as in the case of Mr. Haines, he is privately represented and applies for legal aid. I understand that the Legal Aid Committee of the Law Society is also considering the matter.
