HC Deb 09 March 1967 vol 742 cc333-4W
60. Mr. Fortescue

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will exempt the non-teaching staff at Christ's College, Liverpool, from the terms of the pay standstill, set out in his Department's College Letter No. 3/67 of 25th February, 1967, in view of the fact that in his Department's letter of 1st February, 1967, to the bursar, pay increases to this staff with effect from 1st February were specifically authorised, and consequently paid, for the month of February; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

No. I regret that a few of the colleges were mistakenly advised that grants would be available to cover expenditure on paying the increases from 1st February. As soon as this error was discovered steps were taken to correct it. The advice contained in College Letter 3/67 applies to all voluntary colleges of education and any college which has started to pay the new rates of pay should cease to do so.
