HC Deb 02 March 1967 vol 742 c148W
74. Mr. Gregory

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action he is taking to restore the confidence of the textile industry in Lancashire and Cheshire.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

This Government have done and are doing more than any other to stabilise the level of imports, but we cannot isolate the textile industry in Lancashire and Cheshire from the effects of the general economic measures which we had to take last July. The position should improve as soon as distributors begin to replenish their depleted stocks.
