§ 63. Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Postmaster-General, in view of the fact that all television sets on sale today are able to receive 405 lines on two out of three channels, as some new sets can receive 405 lines only and as the life of a television set is often 10 years, whether he will state the minimum number of years during which broadcasts will continue to be made on 405 lines.
§ Mr. Edward ShortThe consideration to which the hon. Member has drawn attention will be kept very much in mind. There are however other factors, and in particular the rate at which duplication on the 625-line standard progresses, to be taken into account. I do not think therefore that it would be useful for me to specify now the minimum period for which the 405-line transmissions will continue. As I have said they will certainly continue for a period of years.
