HC Deb 02 March 1967 vol 742 c144W
67. Mr. Brewis

asked the Postmaster-General how long the two public telephones in the kiosks outside Sadler's Wells Theatre have been out of order through vandalism.

Mr. Edward Short

The coin box telephones in these kiosks were damaged and repaired twelve times in the twelve months up to September 1965, when they were damaged beyond repair for normal use. As other kiosks are available within 200 yards, the two outside the theatre were put in order for emergency calls only.

Full service will be restored when strengthened boxes, now in production, are in plentiful supply. At present, priority is being given to damaged kiosks with no other nearby.
