HC Deb 02 March 1967 vol 742 cc144-5W
Mr. Gurden

asked the Minister of Technology how far the money being allocated by his Department to Strathclyde for new equipment connected with machine tools will involve duplication with other establishments.

Mr. Benn

I assume the hon. Member is referring to the Institute of Advanced Machine Tool and Control Technology at East Kilbride. There should be little or no duplication when items of major equipment are provided for this Institute, and certainly no unnecessary duplication. One reason governing the choice of site for the Institute was the availability of equipment at the National Engineering Laboratory, thus avoiding duplication.
