HC Deb 01 March 1967 vol 742 c111W
93. Mr. Longden

asked the Postmaster-General why the minimum charge for telephone calls from public call boxes has been raised to 6d.; and what methods he adopted for informing the public of this 100 per cent. rise in charges.

Mr. Edward Short

To rationalise charges on a basis more closely related to costs.

The increase was announced, along with some reductions, by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister on 20th July, and reported in the Press. There were further Press reports in December. Leaflets have been available in Post Offices and Telephone Managers' Offices since July and there are notices in the modified call boxes.—[Vol. 732, c. 654.]
